🔠2022 Gear Overview - I know it is 2023, but this hasn’t changed
Overview
Like M17 August 19 2023 that I did last week, this is another nebula that I can only see in August from my location. This one is the Eagle Nebula, or M16. It is actually really close to M17 and last time I debated trying to capture both at once but settled on just doing one at a time.
I tried doing this all on battery power, preparing for a trip to a dark sky area. I used a Blutti EB3A power station. It has 268Wh which I thought would be more than enough. I set everything up and let it run overnight, but in the morning I had fewer frames than I expected and my battery was completely dead. It did start at only 80%, but I only got 3-4 hours of use. I’ll have to play around with it to see what is using the most power. I think my ASIAir shows power consumption of all the components, so I can start there.
In the end, the quality of the light frames was not great. I just was not happy with the stars, they seems slightly blurry. That gave me an excuse to try out the new Siril and StarNet integration. I first tried the new experimental StarNet CLI for MacOS, but I could not get it installed. I ended up following a tutorial from NebulaPhotos. It gives it a very different feel, which I like.
